My personal notes
: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently)

Penstemon Heterophyllus (Foothill Penstemon) is a local California native. I know that it grows in Whiskey Town Lake Park near the visitors center and along the roadside around the lake. It thrives in its natural habitat on dry hills in poor soil in full sun. An excellent drought tolerant plant. I think it is clear that this plant needs well drained soil and doesn't like to be overwatered.
I just placed it in the 'native sage border', were it hardly gets any water. I am hoping to see the blue flowers at the end of spring and together with its blue greenish leaves it will be in tune with the other plants which surrounds this Penstemon.
