My personal notes: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently)

Artemisia californica (California Sagebrush)
In my garden, is a nice ornamental grey leaved shrub.
It grows originally on coastal sage scrub, chaparral and dry foothill communities, but it likes it place in the front yard, were it is in full sun, in very well drained soil and gets some summer water. This shrub you plant for the gray leaves, because the flowers are not very prominent.
I have been reading that this bush secretes chemicals into the ground which inhibit other plants from growing near, but in Victoria Garden it grows between other plants, they don't seem to mind its presence.
Although the common name is  California Sagebrush it is not a sage but a Artemisia and like the other Artemisias I prune it back a bit in late winter.
