Arctostaphylos edmundsii 'Carmel Sur' young leaves

My personal notes: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently)

Arctostaphylos edmundsii 'Carmel Sur' (Manzanita 'Carmel Sur') is a costal native. Some sources on internet mention that Carmel Sur has light green leaves, others that the leaves should be dark green, but I bought this plant it had mostly green orange leaves. Most of those nice colored leaves where at the tips of the twigs, so it might be either the color of the young leaves, like with the white leaf Manzanita, or coloring due to winter frost. I do opt for the first option, because I have been reading that this shrub is good winter hardy to 10 degrees F and does need some afternoon shade.
All internet source agree about the fact that Carmel Sur Manzanita needs more water than most Manzanita, especially inland. This would make it an excellent shrub for edging a lawn in a shady area. Being a fast growing and staying only a few inches high, it could be an good groundcover.
