Sadly we have to move.
Before this house with it's exceptional garden comes official on the market we would like to offer it to garden lovers.
This gardenwebsite is immense popular and gets about 30000 visitors a month. That doesn't mean we get loads of visitors in the garden itself, hardly anybody knows where the garden is situated. This means we and the potential buyer keep our privacy and can enjoy the quietness of its surroundings. For this reason we didn't mention the address of Victoria Garden on this website, but will when you contact us.
We have immensely enjoyed our stay here in Redding and creating the garden. Unfortunately it is time to say goodbye. For private reasons we have to move and hope that another garden lover will enjoy this house with its garden as much as we did.

Garden with the plants of the websites plant lists.
What should I say about the garden. I think you should judge yourself. Nearly all plants mentioned in all the plant lists on this website can be found in this garden. Some didn't survive and dared to die under my tender care. (See ). The monthly photos will give you a good impression of the garden over the year. Now the garden is mature. All plants have deep roots and have been exposed to frost, heat and all the challenges of growing in Redding. yes we do get occasionally some snow, but it normally melts away the same day. To see the beauty of the garden is snow watch the clip I made last winter. All plants are seasoned and there to stay.

Watering.
The whole garden runs on an automatic watering system that over the years has been adapted to water the garden with a minimum of water. This year we have an exceptional drought, but Victoria garden has been granted enough water to see the garden safely trough the summer. With peace of mind I can go on holiday and let the watering system do its work.

Minimal Garden work
You would think that keeping a garden like Victoria garden looking great is a lot of work. I can tell you that's not the case. I am a lazy gardener. Setting up the garden was a lot of work, the digging, composting, planting. But now all the garden needs is a good spring cleaning. The plants are planted closely together. Weeds don't have a lot of place and light to grow. The whole summer there isn't a lot of work to do, but sit and enjoy the flowers. But if you aren't in for garden work we can recommend you a few real good gardeners, who know the plants and would love to work in this garden.

Organic garden.
We never had the need to use any pesticides. Due to the very diverse planting the garden attracts all kind of critters and animals which keeps a healthy balance. Like frogs, birds and lizards who take care of the aphids etc. When I started the garden I took care to add 50 % compost in all borders. Most compost came from Turtle Bay Botanical gardens. Besides the very good quality of this compost it came with lots of free seeds. Not of weeds, but for all of interesting botanical plants. Further I used horse manure to yearly feed plants that some extra food.

Greenhouse and garden shed
My husband built me a wonderful fully automatic greenhouse, which I use to seed and overwinter tender plants. A small heater keeps the greenhouse frost free and automatic openers open windows at the side and in the roof, depending on the temperature and a fan kicks in if it really gets warm. No need to check and stay home.

Hiking and biking trails
Our property is at the end of a 1 mile winding road. Next door an extensive hick- an bike trail system starts. Everyday I walk an hour in the woods behind our house. In this mixed oak woodland you will find many endemic plants. Especially in spring lots of special bulbs are flowering. Join the native plant society to learn all about the special plants surrounding Redding.

QuiteNeighborhood.
This neighbor hood is very quite. You can sit in the garden and for all hear the birds, who are attracted by the garden, the flowers and all the critters that have a safe heaven between the plants. All houses are situated in a woodland setting, but the woodland has been made fire "safe".

Swimming and kayaking.
We don't have a swimming pool. A pool costs a lot of water and in times of drought, like this year, nearly impossible to maintain. Luckily we have Whiskeytown lake around the corner. The biggest and best "swimming pool" you can imagine. With it's many small beaches, it's clear water it is perfect to cool off, to swim or make a kayak tour.

Office, work from home or 5th bedroom

The house has 4 bedrooms. But on the ground floor there is a large recreation room exists, which can be used as bedroom. This room is also excellent suitable as office. It has its own entrance into the garden.
