Aquilegia formosa, Western Columbine
My personal notes: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently) Aquilegia formosa (Western Columbine) is a native that grows on higher elevations like in the Sierra Nevada. In its native habitat it can be found near creeks and predominantly on north slopes. These locations are an indication that this is good frost hardy, not a drought tolerant plant, but likes regular water (like all Aquilegias) and would appreciate afternoon shade here in Redding. So I planted it in front of a big Yucca gloriosa, (Palm Lily) to give it some shade in the second half of the day. What are your experiences? I hope you would like to contribute to this site by giving your experiences. For a comment on this page REMEMBER THE PAGE ID: 984 TO GET TO THE FORM FOR LEAVING A COMMENT CLICK HERE.
