Sheri and Pat's gardenSteep hillside shade garden, west of Redding, Centerville area with azaleas, rhododendrons, Japanese maples, various ferns, camellias, hostas, coral bells, and many other shade loving plants
SLIDE SHOW WITH ALL PHOTOS OF THE GARDEN Background story Sheri and husband, Mike, moved to Redding in 2002, and Pat moved onto the property a year later and immediately started small sections of gardens. Being gardeners all of our lives, we weren't going to be happy till we used every square inch available. Because of severe sloping, we had to do extensive terracing, which meant bringing in tons of soil and tons of pea gravel for pathways. Along with existing oaks and all the trees the previous owners planted, we have more shade areas than sun. Because of so much shade, we have over 150 azaleas, some of which were already here. We've also added rhododendrons, various ferns, camellias, hostas, coral bells, and many other shade loving plants, plus ornamental Japanese maples to go along with the standard Japanese maples (which are huge). In the sunny areas we have a rose garden and three separate perennial gardens which give us blooms most of the year. Gardening is our passion so spending three to five hours a day tending them, weather permitting, is a joy to us. Pat and Sheri |
